Master Robert Thomas

Master Robert Thomas has been a member of the Chinese Kung-Fu, Wu-Su Association since 1974. Born in Queens and growing up in the Bronx, he began his training as a high school student. His training garnered him the discipline to work his way through college, while continuing to attain his present position of Kung-Fu, Wu-Su Master Instructor and Co-Director.

Robert has been instrumental in promoting the activities of the Chinese Kung-Fu, Wu-Su Association, arranging demonstrations outside of the temple for private organizations and educational institutions. Robert was an active panelist on the allexperts.com website from 1999 through 2007, answering various questions concerning Chinese martial arts. Most recently Mr. Thomas was profiled in a documentary entitled “Natural Mystery,” that aired on The Learning Channel (TLC) and was distributed worldwide. On January 24, 2015 in Atlantic City, N.J., Master Thomas received an award for Outstanding Achievement in Martial Arts for over 20 years of service promoting the martial arts. The award was received from Action Martial Arts magazine.

Robert has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Baruch College of the City University of New York. Formerly an Assistant Vice President at Chemical Bank and a Vice President at Deutsche Bank, Mr. Thomas is currently an Operations Manager with the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene in the Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV and STIs.

Master Thomas teaches his official class on Saturdays, from 3:30pm-6:00pm. He periodically teaches during the week, schedule permitting. Mr. Thomas also teaches private lessons by appointment. Master Oswald Rivera

Master Oswald Rivera has been a member of the Chinese Kung-Fu, Wu-Su Association since 1973. He has been instrumental in bringing attention to the Association through his editorial and advertising efforts; writing for various publications such as Black Belt Magazine, Inside Kung-Fu and Encyclopedia of Body/ Mind Disciplines. He is also charged with providing the Grandmaster with summaries of the Masters and Senior Instructors weekly conferences.

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1944, Mr. Rivera is a product of the New York City public school system and a graduate of City College of the City University of New York. He is also a US Marine Corp Combat Veteran, having served in Viet Nam during the 1968 to 1969 tour.

Oswald resides in Vermont and travels to the school in Manhattan. He is the author of two cookbooks: Puerto Rican Cuisine in America; and The Pharaoh’s Feast (published in the UK as Feasting with the Ancestors). He has also penned four novel: In the time of the Americans, a chronicle of the American century and influence in the Caribbean; The Centurion, a tale of Ancient Rome and the rise of Christianity; The Proud and the Immortal, a story of homelessness in new York City; Fire and Rain, a novel about the Vietnam war but with a twist—it’s set in a prison camp). Master Paul Johnson

Born in London, Paul lived his early life in Kingston, Jamaica. He immigrated to the US when he was 14 years old, settling in the North Bronx. Paul eventually attended the Queens Academy of Aeronautics, obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Aircraft Technology as well as several specialized licences in 1976. Since 1983 he has worked as a Car Inspector for the MTA.

Paul joined the Chinese Kung-Fu, Wu-Su Association in 1974, studying alongside Master Robert Thomas. He also has two years of experience in Capoiera although he maintains that Kung-fu is his true passion. Paul enjoys teaching forms, fighting application and breathing and meditation. As well, he enjoys the varied weapons of our system, particularly the straight sword, staff and three section staff. Paul is a consistent fixture of our senior instruction, teaching during the Saturday 3:30-6:00pm class as well as the Monday/Wednesday evening class.

Paul currently resides in Duchess County, NY and is the proud father of two daughters.

Master Jerome Cook

Master Jerome Cook has been a member of the Chinese Kung Fu, Wu Su Association since 1968. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, he began his training during elementary school, practiced intermittently during high school and college, and returned to the Association after his university studies.

Jerome enjoys teaching the breadth of the Kung-Fu, Wu-Su lesson plan as a means of self-improvement for students. He attributes many of his personal achievements to the discipline learned through his Kung-fu training.

Jerome holds a BS in Aeronautics and Astronautics from M.I.T. and an MBA in Finance from U.C.L.A. Mr. Cook is a former J.P. Morgan banker and ex-Booz Allen Hamilton management consultant. He is currently pursuing a law degree.

Master Cook teaches his official class Saturday morning, from 9–11am. He also supports the Tuesday/Thursday evening class.

Master Luc Dorsinville

Master Dorsinville grew up on the island nation of Haiti. The weakest of three brothers he was asthmatic and had to wear glasses, excluding him from many of the activities other children enjoyed. As a teenager Luc began to experiment with weight training and sports including an informal introduction to Karate and Judo. In the late 1960’s however martial arts were outlawed in Haiti prematurely ending this first exposure to fighting systems.

In his early 20s Luc relocated to the United States, studying Electrical Engineering at the City College of New York. In 1984 he joined the Kung-Fu, Wu-Su Association. Although older than many of his classmates he was able to keep up and within a year he no longer felt any symptoms of his asthma. In 2010 Luc was awarded his Master Instructor title. Master Dorsinville teaches the Monday/Wednesday/Friday morning class as well as the Tuesday/Thursday afternoon class.

Master Dorsinville currently works as the Fire Safety Director/Emergency Action Plan for Securitas Security USA. He is the proud father of five children and grandfather of five. He enjoys the complete breadth of our system’s lesson plan, including the many weapons. He is fond of caring for our plants and remarks that the association is the second greatest source of joy in his life, after his family.

Master Sidney Camille

Master Camille joined the Kung-Fu, Wu-Su Association in August 1988. A native of Haiti, he immigrated to the United States in 1971 and grew up in Brooklyn. Sidney’s first formal introduction in the martial arts was at Brooklyn Technical High School where he was a member of the school’s Tai Kwon Do club. Later, while studying at Polytechnic University he learned some elements of Judo.

Master Camille was initially attracted to Kung-Fu, Wu-Su by the discipline and energy of the instructors. He enjoys all aspects of the system especially stepping, discipline techniques, and chi kung longevity techniques. Sidney holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Polytechnic University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Baruch College of the City of New York. He is a licensed professional civil engineer working with the New York State Department of Transportation.

Sidney teaches the Friday 6:00pm-8:00pm / Sunday 10:00am-12:00pm class and assists with the Tuesday evening class. Sidney currently resides in Queens.

Master Liz

Born in Queens and raised in upstate New York, Master Liz joined the Chinese Kung-Fu, Wu-Su Association in 1988. She is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, attended the University of Wisconsin Graduate School in Milwaukee, and worked as an IT professional on Wall Street for eleven years.

Liz is the first female master in the school and enjoys chi kung, ground fighting, weapons, the nail bed and helping to manage and promote the school.

Currently living in Brooklyn with her husband, Liz is a freelance bookkeeper and landlord.
